Hamilton and Seyonic Announce Collaboration for Nanopipetting on Hamilton MICROLAB® STAR Workstation
Hamilton Company of Reno, Nevada and Bonaduz, Switzerland, and Seyonic S.A. of Neuchâtel, Switzerland announce the global collaboration agreement for the development and supply of a nanopipetting application incorporating Seyonic’s MEMS sensor technology in the MICROLAB® STAR pipetting workstation. The new system was introduced in the US at LabAutomation 2006 in Palm Springs, California. The new system allows consistently accurate pipetting down to 25nl of liquid. Innovative reusable ceramic tips are cleaned by wash liquid inside and out in an innovative ultrasonic bath. The system automatically adjusts parameters for rapid switching between aspirations and dispense. The Hamilton-Seyonic nanopipetting application distinguishes itself by providing the option of monitoring each pipetting step using patented Seyonic MEMS flow sensors and pipetting technology to detect foam, clogs or insufficient sample liquid during aspiration. The flow sensors control volume in real time and automatically compensate for variations in sample liquid viscosity. This eliminates the need for individual liquid classes and assures accurate pipetting of a wide range of liquids repeatably and reliably. The new Nanopipetting system is expected to be most appreciated in the area of protein crystallization sample preparation which uses solvents with a very wide range of viscosities in addition to demanding both 100-400nl and microliter pipetting on the same platform. Fabricators of array chips will also benefit by being able to deposit nanoliter size spots of highly active oligo conjugates on a variety of substrates.
