The MICROLAB STAR uses a set of solid teach needles to automatically calibrate deck positions during calibration.  After this is completed, the system will be able to determine positions to place labware and pipette.  The user will not normally need to teach the system any deck positions or arm movements as is done on older pipetting workstations.

The MICROLAB STAR verifies pipetting volumes via gravimetric testing.  This is much more reliable than traditional verification testing using dyes and plate absorbance readers.
